Dave Nice had his
bike stolen back in June while racing the
Great Divide Mountain Bike Race.
Various people chipped in to buy Dave replacements for his bike and
gear so he can get back to riding and racing. Here in the Seattle area
we organized a little 100 kilometer ride on mostly on gravel trails and
dirt roads and called it the "
Nice Ride For Dave Nice."
On the day of the ride we had a mix of sun and rain and our potluck
picnic turned out to be a rather damp affair up at the top of
Snoqualmie Pass. But we still had a good time. 16 riders showed up for
the ride and we raised 161 bucks for Dave. If it would've been warmer,
I bet Brad Hawkins would've gotten more takers for slices of the two
watermelons he lugged up to Snoqualmie Pass!
Below are a few pictures from the day. The first pictures shows Robin
Pieper's clever homebrew pump-peg that he crafted from a section of an
old rim and part of a spoke and the third picture is a Tournesol bike
Jan Heine is reviewing for his magazine
Vintage Bicycle Quarterly. Clicking on any of the thumbnails below will open a window where you can browse bigger versions of the photographs.
Thanks to everyone who showed up for the ride and donated money to
Dave. If we were really smart we would've had the picnic in the
sunshine by Rattlesnake Lake.
